Pollution refers to introduction of any substance to environment that is not a part of that environment.
It is the presence or introduction of harmful or poisonous substances into the environment, which can cause adverse effects on living organisms and also on ecosystems. Environmental pollution can occur in various forms and from various sources, affecting air, water, soil, and even noise levels.
There are several types of pollution:
Environmental Air Pollution
It is caused by the release of pollutants into the atmosphere, primarily from industrial activities, vehicle emissions, and burning of fossil fuels. Air pollution is top priority type as it affects the earth environment and living Things life styles. Air pollution is measured by air quality index AQI. This type of pollution contains dust particles or particulate matter of size of PM 2.5 and PM 10. Others are Nitrogen oxides, Sulphur dioxide, Carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and ozone from various anthropogenic activities.
Environmental Water Pollution
Occurs when contaminants are discharge into bodies of water such as rivers, lakes, and oceans, leading to their degradation and harming aquatic life. Water pollution sources are municipal waste, industrial waste water, and rain and flood water that contaminating water bodies like rivers, lakes, as well as ocean or sea. The biggest water pollution source is municipal waster Water, second largest is industrial waste effluent wasted because of no any treatment.
Environmental Soil Pollution
Resulting from the accumulation of pollutants in the soil, often due to improper disposal of waste, use of pesticides and fertilizers, or industrial activities. The waste of industrial units, hospitals, agricultural waste, and human waste of municipal waste should treat and also incinerate for proper disposal in land fill or used for agricultural purpose.
Noise Pollution
Caused by excessive noise levels in the environment, usually from urbanization, industrial processes, transportation, and recreational activities. The noise pollution by vehicle on road is the biggest problem for urban areas. Where as noise by industrial activities are also affects the employees working in the industry. The noise pollution can be reduce by noise control machine or by proper working on that machine used in industry.
Light Pollution
Arises from the excessive or misdirected artificial light in urban areas, disrupting ecosystems, wildlife, and human health. Light pollution also affects the birds and reduces birds population in urban areas. To control this pollution lights head should be cover from upper side or light base to earth. In homes use of light that is necessary only extra lighting should be power off. While sleeping light shouldn’t fall on your head because if fall on head the proper sleep can not be achieve due to unbalance in hormones system during sleep.
Thermal Pollution
Thermal pollution caused by the release of heated water into natural bodies of water, altering their temperature and affecting aquatic ecosystems. The heated water if wastes to natural water bodies it will harm the aquatic ecosystem organisms. The standard of temperature for waste water in environmental protection agency have standard limits of 40 degree centigrade.
Radioactive Pollution
Results from the release of radioactive substances into the environment. The waste from nuclear power plants, mining activities, or improper disposal of nuclear waste. Nuclear waste should be dispose to government nuclear department for proper disposal.
Each type of pollution poses unique challenges and requires targeted efforts for mitigation and prevention. Because of heavy pollution load on environment all the steps should take for safe environment. It is everyones responsibility to minimize the pollution. Through taking steps to reduce uses of pollution sources, repair and recycle the material, and reuse.
